About

luut.mn is an independent reference on Luut, the Xiongnu capital, on the ancient cities of Mongolia, and on the country’s aimags and soums.

Two parts

First, the ancient cities: capitals, cities and walled settlements of the Xiongnu, Uyghur, Khitan, Mongol Empire and later periods, with Luut at the centre.

Second, every aimag and soum in Mongolia. Each ancient city also appears on its soum’s page, so history readers and travellers find what they need in one place.

Sources

Every page lists its sources at the foot. Nothing is published without a source, and sites whose location is not confirmed to the soum are held back until it is.

How certainty is marked

Established — supported by published sources.

Working interpretation — still discussed by specialists, or where sources disagree.

Languages

Mongolian is the primary version. The English version serves researchers and travellers from abroad.

Corrections and reuse

Errors are corrected openly on the page, with a date. Text is published under CC BY-SA 4.0 and may be reused with attribution.
